Art Basel | Meta House | Ocean Mural

I had the honor of collaborating with local artist Morel Doucet and Meta Immersive Learning on an AR experience at Art Basel Miami, held at the Meta House. This AR activation brought to life Morel's mural, "The Ocean Dances Over Sun Buttered Mountains," 2021. The piece is an immersive installation that deeply engages with themes like climate change, the bleaching of coral reefs, and the rising sea levels—a pressing issue for Miami's residents.

Visitors could literally step into the artwork, making them part of the visual story about environmental challenges facing marine life and urban landscapes. In creating the AR experience, we focused on a diorama effect, maintaining the graphical nature of the artwork while introducing depth through layered, animated 3D elements. This method not only preserved the artistic integrity of the mural but also enhanced the interactivity, allowing users to feel as if they were looking into and becoming part of a living scene.

This collaboration at Art Basel was an exhibition as well as a powerful call to action, urging us to engage with and address the environmental issues highlighted by the artists through the potent medium of augmented reality.
